Owner Randy Nickle is thanking the Kenora community for their outstanding support once again.

Kenora’s A&W has completed the Burgers to Beat MS hat-trick, and is officially the top fundraising restaurant in Canada for the third year in a row!

Through collecting $2 from every Teen Burger, rounding up at the till and a variety of their own fundraisers, Kenora’s A&W Restaurant raised $40,834.28 on August 18 to help people living with MS across Canada.

Kenora’s A&W team was named the top fundraising A&W restaurant across Canada in 2020 and 2021, and now once again in 2022. Their previous single-day record was also shattered this year, after being set at $37,000 last year.

Owner Randy Nickle notes Kenora’s A&W has been in the top 10 across Canada over the last 8 years – a testament to the team’s hard work.

“It is quite the honour to be #1 in Canada. It’s icing on top of the cake,” says Nickle, noting staff helped raise over $10,000 through rounding up at the till alone.

“Our goal is to do what we can to help people with MS. Being #1 in Canada for the last three years, with the great help of so many people in our community and people who come into our community, it makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. It’s indescribable,” he adds.

This was the 14th annual Burgers to Beat MS Day in Canada. Between 2008 and 2021, A&W raised over $17 million to support Canadians living with MS.

The Mayo Clinic says Multiple Sclerosis is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord, and 12 Canadians are diagnosed with MS every day on average.

With MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibres and causes communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body. Eventually, the disease can cause permanent damage or deterioration of the nerves.
