Doctors at Sunnybrook Hospital want to help.
They say one in five mothers in the province may experience the loss of a pregnancy or infant. Marie Sanderson of Sunnybrook says the reasons are generally not the fault of the mother.
"The truth is that most miscarriages happen because of genetic problems in the pregnancy. When there is a genetic problem, a baby cannot develop and the pregnancy stops growing," it says on the hospital's web site.
She emphasized normal activities -- such as a fall or a workout at the gym -- won't cause a miscarriage. However, there's reason to believe smoking while pregnant may increase the risk of a miscarriage.
Sunnybrook is the country's largest trauma centre, handling more than a million patients a year. With more than 200 doctors on staff, the hospital also carries out more than $100 million dollars a year in research.
