Kenora city councillors have given their support for phase 2 of redevelopment at the Kenora SportsPlex.
For close to four years now, the old J.M. Arena has been used for indoor soccer, as well as other community uses. During a deputation to Kenora council yesterday, volunteers Heather Kasprick and Megan Derouard spoke about turning the second floor viewing area into a play area. They would like to provide families with infants or young children with a space for unstructured, supervised play.
The committee has accumulated a surplus to pay for playground equipment. They're also looking at grants, as well as admission fees to help for a renovation budget of about $660,000.
The indoor sports complex opened in 2014.
