A small increase in the cost of policing in Kenora's part of a five-year plan.

"We're coming to the last year of the phased-in costing, so that's the difference that you see," said S/Sgt. Jeff Duggan.

For the 2018 budget, the increase is about $45,000 to a total of $5.7 million. Mayors across the province are continuing to look for ways to decrease policing costs.

As of December, the number of assaults in the city were up by 95 to 395. The number of sexual assaults were also up 15 to 56.

In an effort to get ahead of the curve, the detachment has an analyst to look at patterns and hotspots, in an effort to help them allocate resources.
