Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell is calling for more long-term care beds, especially in the Sioux Lookout area. Campbell says the province promised 80 beds for the area, but they only have 20.
As a result, residents of isolated communities in the Far North are being sent to Thunder Bay and Fort Frances. The member notes the absence of resources means dementia patients in the area can face a four-year wait in a hospital bed.
Campbell added a proposal to add 76 beds to the Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre in Sioux Lookout has been sitting at Queen's Park for three years, without a response. The member noted 40 residents of the area have been moved to Thunder Bay, due to a shortage of beds.
