The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board's looking for more direction, when it comes to the legalization of marijuana. Director of Education Sean Monteith says they're working on policies with trustees across Ontario, as well as Queen's Park.
"At this point, we still have concerns about a number of things: proximity to schools, usage by young people, how does it affect young people in classrooms," he said. "We're going to have to work together with legal authorities, as well as policymakers to make sure we are able to manage this introduction."
Monteith anticipates some policies similar to guidelines for the use of tobacco, which might in the future apply to marijuana. He says we may also see human resources policies adjusted.
The issue was also part of the recent Kenora District Municipal Association meetings. The legalization is expected to take effect July 1 across the country.
