Gateway Casinos is getting ready to build the first of five operations in Northern Ontario. It'll be in Sudbury, where city council has approved rezoning for the project.

The other four include Kenora, Thunder Bay, the Soo and North Bay. A location for the casino in Kenora hasn't yet been chosen.

Residents have been waiting more than five years for the project.

Gateway was selected in 2016. Aspiring gamblers have been waiting since 2012 for a casino on Lake of the Woods.

Operating in Western Canada, Gateway has over 4,000 employees and operates 18 gaming properties with 222 tables and over 6,700 slot machines.With business partners, Gateway operates 43 restaurants and 1,000 hotel rooms.
