The Kenora Catholic District School Board welcomed their new Director of Education to Kenora this week. Derek Haime was in town for the board's inaugural meeting as well as a short visit before he takes over in February.
He talked about what drew him to the board, and Kenora.
"The close knit community, and the tremendous involvement in the community in all aspects. That certainly was a huge drawing card. The natural beauty doesn't hurt either," he said.
Phyllis Eikre, who is retiring after 33 years, reflected on her time with the board.
"We've been able to make strides in academics, and athletics, and in the arts. It's been wonderful to a part of the joys of learning of all of our students and our community," she said.
Haime will be the board's fifth director of education.
