Energy Minister Greg Rickford agrees gas prices are too high. Last week, he recalled paying a $1.54 a litre in Nestor Falls.
"That's a very high price for gasoline. A lot of us drive bigger vehicles for safety. So, that's been a top priority for our government and we want to lower that price," he said.
Rickford adds his government is working to reduce the price of gas. This fall, his government intends to introduce legislation to formally eliminate the cap and trade system, which includes a carbon tax.
"We want to make it real. We want to make it a real 10 cent reduction people can feel in their pockets," the minister added.
"When we legislatively get rid of the cap-and-trade carbon tax that'll bring an immediate five cents down, and then after that I'm tasked with the other five cents," Rickford noted.
