The OPP are reporting a number of charges over the Canada Day Long Weekend aggressive driving police blitz.
Police laid 326 speeding charges across OPP-patrolled roads in the North West Region, and 18 seat-belt offence charges. Local police also laid 53 Liquor Licence Act charges. Across the province, the OPP laid close to 7,000 speeding charges, and more than 170 stunt/racing charges.
Police also report that there was a fatality in the Conmee Township in the Thunder Bay District, after a driver struck a hydro pole while riding on an ATV. Across the province, there were seven fatalities on the roads, three drownings and two fatal marine incidents.
The OPP is reminding the public to make safety the first priority on roads, waterways and trails over the summer months.
