The Kenora and District Chamber of Commerce is recognizing local businesses and entrepreneurs.

Its Annual Business Awards proved to be yet another successful night as the community came out for a great meal, entertainment and banquet at Seven Generations Education Institute last night.

Among the crowd was Pam Viinikka of the Log Cabin Tavern and the Cornerstone. She was the recipient of the Entrepreneur, Business Owner and Manager of the Year award. She says that this award isn't just for her.

"I would like to especially thank my business partner, Brian Heath. I couldn't do it without him. He's my 'manager of the year' I would have to say. My employees, and my family as well. It's always a team effort," she says.

Shyy Kennedy and Courtney Alcock, co-owners of Buck & Doe Hair & Skin Studio won the award for Youth Entrepreneur.

"I did not expect to win, but I'm pretty stoked about it. I want to thank Courtney for the work that she does, and I want to thank my clients, because they're the reason we do what we do", Kennedy says.

The Chamber Awards received over 140 nominations nominating 72 business and Manager of the KDCC, Carlee Hakenson spoke about the success of the night.

"There's a lot of work that going into planning. Being here and finally getting to enjoy the night, the dinner and entertainment is great. I love seeing all of the nominees who won the awards with smiling faces. It's rewarding." she says.

Not only were there smiles on the winners' faces, but the crowd's as well. Comedian Matt Falk took to the stage with an amazing set. He's been called "Effortlessly Funny" by the CBC, and performed at Just for Laughs, the Halifax Comedy Festival and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival.

The Chamber also held its Annual General Meeting prior to the banquet where a new president was announced. Ron Malashewski of Cliff Lake Capital Limited will lead the Board of Directors in 2018.
