It’s not been a great winter for downhill skiing in Kenora, but that hasn’t stopped four youth from competing in a freestyle competition.

The four took part in the 2024 Falcon Ridge Rail Jam this past weekend.

Quinn Haines and Connor Smyth both had solid scores for all four runs of the competition to finish first and second respectively in the 13U Male division.

Sam Casey had the highest score (87.00) of the day to win first place in the 15U Male division.

Griffin Hyslop was the fourth Kenora athlete competing in the competition and he finished just out of the medals, but had a strong competition as an 11-year old competing against 12 and 13-year olds in the 13U male division.

For the Rail Jam Competition, athletes had four runs each and the judges scored each run (out of 100) on the difficulty, style, and execution of tricks on rails, jumps, and boxes.

Final placing was based on the best two scores that each athlete received during the competition.

The St. Thomas Aquinas boys and girls teams collected silver medals at the NorWOSSA curling championships in Fort Frances over the weekend.

With their 2nd place finishes, both teams now advance to the NWOSSAA Championships being held in Thunder Bay, March 3rd to the 5th.
