Mayor Craig Nuttall is voicing his opinion on Ignace's bid for the nuclear waste storage facility.
"I can tell you that I am very supportive of Ignace and their nuclear waste site because that will be 11,000 jobs for 10 years," he said.
Ignace along with three other communities have advanced into the next research phase as potential sites. The area is now under evaluation by The Nuclear Waste Management Organization to decide which community is the best possible site.
Ignace joins Northern Ontario communities Schreiber and Hornepayne as well as Creighton, Saskatchewan.
The bid has drawn both heavy criticism and support from residents of Ignace. Nishnawbe Aski Nation is also strongly against any kind of nuclear waste storage facility in any community in northern Ontario.
A decision on a site is still years away.
