R.I.D.E. program leads to drug charges in Ignace

A 59-year-old Ignace man is facing two charges after being caught with a large quantity of suspected hydromorphone pills during a traffic stop.

The Ignace OPP say a R.I.D.E. program was being conducted in Ignace on at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, when they observed an impaired driver. But during their investigation, police seized an amount of drugs.

As a result, the 59-year-old of Ignace is facing charges of:

– Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking,
– Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired – alcohol and drugs,

The accused has been held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Dryden court today to answer to the charges.
