An investigation into the sale of illegal drugs in the Northwest Region concluded with the arrest of three people.

The Kenora Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), and Organized Crime & Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) executed a search warrant back on July 9, 2021.

At 9:30 a.m. A traffic stop was conducted by the OPP in Kenora which resulted in three individuals being arrested for Drug Trafficking and a total of 12 charges were laid. Weapons and drugs were seized from the vehicle.

At 8:23 p.m. Police executed a search warrant on a camper at Silver Lake where a firearm and ammunition were seized by police.

Two people were charged with the following charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and the Criminal Code (CC).

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm, contrary to section 92(1) CC.

  • Careless Storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to section 86(1) CC

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance-Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) CDSA.

  • Failure to Comply With Release Order-other than to attend court, contrary to section 145(5)(a) CC X2


A third person was charged with the following offences under the CDSA.

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance-Opioid (other than heroin), contrary to section 4(1) CDSA X2

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Methamphetamine, contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

 

Two of the accused individuals were held for bail and the third person was released to attend the Kenora Courthouse to answer the charges on August 19, 2021.
