The Kenora's post office has been evacuated and emergency responders are on scene, after a suspicious package from Wuhan, China was delivered earlier today. Employees are reported to be feeling unwell.

The Kenora OPP, Kenora Fire and Emergency Services and Northwest EMS paramedics are all assisting with the situation. The call to emergency services came in around 1:27 p.m. today.

“Police were dispatched to a suspicious package call at the post office,” explained Const. Jason Canfield with the OPP.

“The concern was that some of the employees weren’t feeling good, and the package is from Wuhan, China, the same city that the Coronavirus started in. We’re just taking the appropriate precautions to make sure that everyone is okay,” said Canfield.

Canfield added that police are in touch with a special OPP team based out of Orillia for advice and next steps, as well as ensuring the safe handling of the package.

Residents are asked to avoid the post office area to allow emergency responders to perform their work.
