Southern Ontario hitchhikers charged with assault

Two residents from southern Ontario are facing charges after reports of aggressive and suspicious hitchhikers along Highway 17 East last night.

The OPP said they received reports of the two individuals shortly before 2 p.m. and quickly arrested one suspect.

A search for the second suspect took place with help from the Emergency Response Team, K9 Unit and Forest Helicopters later in the evening, which was successful.

As a result, a 36-year-old of Bosanquet, ON has been arrested and charged with:

– Assault with a weapon,
– Mischief – interfere with any person in the lawful use, enjoyment or recreation of property under $5k,
– Obstruct Peace Officer,
– Instrument for use in copying credit cards,
– Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000,

As well, a 28-year-old of London, ON has been charged with:

– Assault with a weapon,
– Mischief – interfere with any person in the lawful use, enjoyment or recreation of property under $5k,

The accused are being held in custody and are expected to appear in bail court today.
