Premiers call for carbon tax relief and meeting with PM

The leaders of five provinces have made an official request for a meeting with the Prime Minister over the carbon tax.

In a letter, released late Friday, the Premiers of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta are requesting a meeting to discuss the carbon tax and recent changes which they say are having a negative impact upon confederation.

It specifically notes the removal of the carbon tax on home heating oil, which primarily benefits Atlantic Canada, and the provincial leaders say that is causing division across the rest of the country.

In addition to the meeting request they are asking for the carbon tax to be removed from all forms of home heating, which they believe would address affordability concerns being faced by Canadians.
