Police seeking possible victims in sexual assault investigation

Thunder Bay Police are appealing to the public amid a sexual assault investigation which involves a youth, specifically as investigators now believe there are more victims who have not yet come forward.

Last August officers with the Child Abuse Unit began an investigation in to a 20 year old city man who was using social media to meet a youth online, before supplying them with alcohol and sexually assaulting them.

The victim is known to the accused and in an effort to protect their identity police are not releasing any further details.

In February the 20 year old was arrested and charged with:
• Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 Years of Age
• Invitation to Sexual Touching under 16 Years of Age
• Luring a Person Under 18 Years of Age by Means of Telecommunication

A continued investigation has yielded more charges against the man including:
• Possession of Child Pornography
• Accessing Child Pornography
• Possess for the Purpose of Distribution of Child Pornography

Further review of the evidence has led police to believe the accused regularly attempted to make contact with youths through various social media platforms, and are now asking for the public’s assistance as they continue to investigate the possibility that more youths have been victimized.

Police have released a list of social media user names the accused is believed to have used.

Anyone who suspects they may have been targeted to check their social media accounts and check for any interactions with the above mentioned usernames.
