Visitor restrictions continue at Pinecrest in Kenora.

Residents in Kenora’s Pinecrest Home for the Aged are no longer under a COVID-19 outbreak status.

As of late Monday afternoon, the outbreak in Unit #4 has been declared over by the Northwestern Health Unit. It was first reported on October 28, and it grew to 20 affected residents by November 2.

Meanwhile, Unit #3 remains in an Influenza outbreak with one symptomatic resident, but all other affected residents have recovered. That outbreak was reported on November 8 with 4 residents affected. Residents were given antiviral medications and received their flu shots last week.

As it stands, visiting restrictions continue to only be one designated caregiver for the affected resident during their isolation period, which lasts 5 days for the flu, pending symptom improvement.

All visitors are reminded that if you are feeling unwell or have been in contact with someone who is unwell, please refrain from visiting the home.

The NWHU reminds residents that influenza vaccines are available. Get vaccinated by contacting your local pharmacy or health care provider, or by making an appointment using the health unit’s vaccine booking system.
