The OPP are helping to investigate an infant’s death in Pikangikum First Nation. On January 31, the Pikangikum Police Service requested the assistance of the OPP to assist with the sudden death investigation in the community.

On January 31, Pikangikum Police Service officers had been contacted regarding an infant who had been brought into the nursing station, and was subsequently pronounced dead. The infant was two months old.

Officers with the Pikangikum Police Service and the OPP North West Region Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy Heida of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

A post mortem examination was conducted in Toronto on February 2. Anyone with any information relating to this investigation is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or the Pikangikum Police Service at 807-773-5007.
