Kenora's new MP elect, Eric Melillo, is a lesson in working hard and achieving your dreams.

We spoke with Melillo in 2015, while he was a still a student at Beaver Brae, when federal candidates visited the school to talk to students. Even then Melillo had political aspirations.

"Yes, I do have political aspirations. It's a goal of mine to sit in the House of Commons one day," he said.

Recently he spoke about how it feels to accomplish that goal.

"It's a tremendous honour. It's a very humbling experience. I know being able to accomplish this goal and having the people of the riding put their trust in me is a great privilege, and I'm really just excited to get to work," he said.

He also explained what his new goal is.

"I'd also like to say to the people who did not cast their ballot for me, or maybe didn't vote all together, that I am going to work for everyone in our region and it's my goal to earn their support for the next election," he said.

Melillo beat out Liberal incumbent Bob Nault by over 1000 votes.
