Lake of the Woods District Hospital is getting just over a million dollars to upgrade it’s aging building.

President and CEO Ray Racette says some of the money will go towards enlarging the emergency room.

“The Emergency Department is the last major area we have to expand,” explains Racette.

“The funding we’re getting through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund, most of that is going to finish the emergency renovation.  We’ll have it finished probably this fiscal year.”

Racette adds they money helps them keep the building and the equipment up-to-date.

“We have been using these funds strategically for several years, just to help us maintain our infrastructure.  Also for different expansions we’ve done.  For hospitals like ourselves, it’s really a significant, valuable funding source for us.”

Racette says the other part of the funding will use used for roof repairs.

The funding comes from the province’s Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund.
