Fire crews are busy. Just yesterday firefighters were active in Kenora, Rat Portage and Machin, as well as locations off of Hwy. 71 and Hwy. 525, where the flames have claimed 200 hectares.

Late this afternoon, there were reports of a grass fire that got out of control in Machin Township, as well as a fire call to an island off of Hwy. 71 before Sioux Narrows. A crew from the MNR also responded to Wauzhushk Onigum, but a quick response by staff members prevented the spread of a small fire to neighbouring woods.

So, if you're thinking about having a brush fire, take extra care and allow for the tinder-dry conditions.
