Water levels are continuing to drop in the Lake of the Woods and Lac Seul areas.

Lake of the Woods is currently listed in its 5th percentile level for this time of the year, meaning over the last 100 years, the water level on Lake of the Woods has been this low or lower in only 5 other years.

The average lake level is expected to fall by another inch over the next week, and no outflow changes are currently scheduled by the Lake of the Woods Control Board.

The current level of Lac Seul is also in its 5th percentile for this of the year after rising by an inch over the past week, and levels are expected to rise another 1 to 2 inches over the next week. The control board says no outflow changes are scheduled.

The Lake of the Woods Control Board’s Secretariat notes the board recently held a consultation to review their current strategy to protect local waterways and basin conditions, determining that the current strategy was adequate, but a new strategy will be adopted by the end of October.
