Nearly 600 grams of cocaine were taken off the streets of Fort Frances. 

The Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a patrol in the City of Fort Frances at approximately 12:45 a.m. on June 22, when they observed a rental vehicle in a parking lot.  

The officers approached the vehicle and the occupants fled. Further investigation revealed evidence of drug activity.  

A search of the personal motor vehicle was conducted, and Rainy River District OPP officers seized: 

  • approximately 580 grams of cocaine/crack cocaine; 

  • over $19,000 in Canadian currency; 

  • three cell phones; and, 

  • scales and other evidence of drug trafficking. 

Richard RONMARK, 43 of Fort Frances and Diane SMITH, 46 of Naicatchewenin First Nation were arrested and charged with: 

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to sec. 5(2) of the Drugs and Substances Act 

  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, contrary to sec. 345(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. 

Richard RONMARK appeared before an Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances on July 1, 2022, to answer to the charges.  

Diane SMITH will appear before an Ontario Court of Justice in Fort Frances on August 15, 2022, to answer to the charges.
