Kenora's emergency shelter will be the focus of a new committee. City council member Colin Wasacase is also the chairman of the board for the Fellowship Centre on Water Street, and he offers an update.
"We're getting a positive response from both the province and the Kenora District Services Board and the community, which are all partners to develop a plan," he said, following last week's committee of the whole.
"I think it's important, as well, that we're going to set up a committee, which will guide us in trying to work on a definite plan for the homeless in Kenora," he said, referring to the city's initiative.
In recent months, the city and the district services board have released plans to address affordable housing and the homeless. However, these long-term plans aren't offering a solution to the shelter's immediate needs for funding. With new partners involved, a part of the discussion may involve a change in ownership.
