Canadian travelers have been watching as fully vaccinated Americans have entered Canada for non-essential travel, and Canadian’s want their opportunity to travel down south.

That travel bug urge will have to wait a little longer as the US government extended their border closure last week until September 21, 2021.

Kenora Liberal candidate David Bruno says the acceleration of the US land and sea borders opening will depend on the vaccination rates of Canadian’s.

“As soon as we have proof that your double vaccinated things are going to move much, much faster. I’m 100 per cent behind the government with mandating in many areas double vaccinations for travel, for Via Rail, and for public services. The more we get that done the faster it [US land and sea borders] will open,” said Bruno

Bruno went on to say that he is in favour of the federal government implementing a vaccine passport to Canadian’s.

“It makes things so much easier, it’s very clear, it’s very understandable. When it comes to public health were all in this together, having a clear understanding of who’s vaccinated, for sure is going to help open the border much, much faster,” added Bruno

To limit the spread of COVID-19 provinces like British Columbia, Manitoba, and Quebec have introduced a vaccine passport that provides proof of vaccination to allow people access to non-essential services.

In addition, some provinces have put in place mandatory vaccine policies for high-risk and provincial work settings. If proof of full vaccination, a medical reason for not being vaccinated, or the completion of a COVID-19 vaccination educational session has not been shown, employees will have to undergo regular antigen testing.

To date in Canada 82.1 per cent of those aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 72.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Bruno’s priorities if elected are the acceleration of the twinning of the TransCanada Highway and to bring high-speed internet to rural and remote communities across Northwestern Ontario. Bruno will also be fighting for more funding in the region in terms of equity.

Bruno’s campaign continues today, (August 28, 2021), as his Liberal Campaign Launch will take place at 12:00 p.m. at 130 Main Street, Kenora. Minister of Health Patty Hadju will be accompanying Bruno with his campaign launch as well.
