The Trudeau government brings down its budget tomorrow.

Ontario’s Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy has his wishlist read.

He wants to see a commitment to supporting the development of the Ring of Fire.

“We put in a billion dollars of capital. We want not only the federal government to match that. But not just the dollars. Work with us on actually getting the permitting, the approvals, and sending a message to President Biden and the rest of the world that Canada, and Ontario in particular, is a great place to invest capital,” says Bethlenfalvy.

Ontario sees the Ring of Fire as a vital part of economic growth in the province.

It holds key minerals necessary in the electric vehicle industry.

“Thirty-four of those critical minerals that are necessary for battery manufacturing are right here in Ontario. And that security of supply, the access to the supply. Work with us on the Ring of fire, work with us on infrastructure, work with us on permitting and approvals, so that we can not only bring prosperity to the north led by the First Nations.”

Bethlenfalvy says they want to position Ontario as champions in building electric vehicles in North America.

Volkswagen recently announced it would be construct a battery manufacturing plant in the province, the first time they’ve invested in Canada.
