There is help available from anyone suffering Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder from their job.

Badge of Life has a chapter in Kenora for any front-line public safety worker needing help.

Heidi Strutzenberger is the local representative and says the city actually has a lot of supports available.

“We’re lucky here because Kenora has an in-person peer support group,” explains Strutzenberger.

“This was achieved only by reaching out to some organizations here in Kenora.  The local branch of Badge of Life Canada, is a peer support group that meets every Thursday.”

Strutzenberger adds anyone that needs to share their experiences can do so at their peer support meetings.

“The group itself actually provides support.  It’s not a place where people go to obtain therapy, it’s a place where people are empowered to be genuine in what they are experiencing…to talk about the symptoms they are having or the struggles they are dealing with.”

She says Kenora actually has a lot of supports available, including therapists and phychotherapists and agencies that deal with mental health.
