Ear Falls SIJHL team update

The newly formed SIJHL franchise in Ear Falls is up and running. The English River Miners now have an executive to lead them into their inaugural season. Jason Vinet has been named club president, with Sean Nichols as vice-president. Kevin Kahoot will serve as general manager and head coach, and will also be looking after hockey operations.

Ticket sales have also started for the Miner's first season. In the first few days of sales, they've managed to sell roughly 100 tickets, before beginning any large sales campaign. They intend to have tickets sold at local events such as Canada Day, Norseman Days and the Trout Forest Music Festival.

They're also beginning to recruit players for the team. They've started a recruitment drive with some of the area's First Nations Communities, and also have scouts in Alberta, Michigan, the Midwest and Thunder Bay area. The plan for Ear Falls to join the league was announced earlier this spring. The announcement came after a series that saw the loss of two teams, including the Duluth Clydesdales and the Sioux Lookout Flyers.
