Eagles new roost in Ear Falls

ice dogs - 2Junior hockey is coming to the Ear Falls arena this fall, with Mayor Kevin Kahoot leading the way.

Kevin Kahoot is the spokesman for the new entry in the SIJHL. He says they're working quickly to get a team on ice for the fall.

"Right now, we're in the stages of player recruitment, fundraising, like I said we've got people involved in attracting corporate sponsors. Season ticket drive should be up about this time next week," he said.

A lot of the criteria the league requires -- such as dressing rooms, ice surface size and safety requirements -- have been completed at Ear Falls. He adds they've also got the facilities for livestreaming games.

Their executive and logo is expected to be finalized by the end of the month. More details on the recruitment of coaches and players are expected in the days ahead.

The league itself had a rough time last season, with the loss of Sioux Lookout and Duluth. Dryden lost in the semi-finals in a tough series against Ft. Frances. The eventual winner was the Minnesota Wilderness, who advanced to the national finals.
