The groomers have started and trails are now open in the Dryden area. While many trails are open to full availability, Dryden Power Toboggan Club President Larry Lyle says they are still working to groom some of the trails.
"Somebody has to ride them and make sure there's no major trees down or anything like that. They have to make sure the signage is up to snuff and then they can be opened and once a groomer can go down them they become fully opened," he said.
He also says that while riders still need to be careful, as ice ridges on the lake can present a hazard.
"Stay on the trails. On the lake there are lots of ice ridges out there. There is quite a bit of slush this year. It's nothing serious but people definitely need to look out for the ice ridges," he said.
The east trail to Sioux Lookout is half-way done, while the west trail has almost reached Eagle Lake. Lyle says while it is still early in the season, people need to be remain cautious as there is a lack of snow on some trails.
